課程要求
WEEKLY EXERCISES: 25% INDIVIDUAL
Each week every students are expected to answer assigned questions by reading these articles. Questions will be announced at least one week in advance. Answers (at least 800-1,000 words) must be based on your critical reading on these materials and some of your empirical findings on China, either from your personal experiences, or news reports, or other sources. Answers should be posted to the CEIBA by every Monday night in advance in order to let fellow colleagues read your reflections and thoughts. Students are only allowed to skip four times, in case there are any unexpected emergence. This part is 25 %. Those who do NOT submit more than four times will be automatically scored zero at this section.

IN CLASS DISCUSSIONS: 15% INDIVIDUAL
In university seminars, students are expected to talk and discuss loudly and voluntarily. (See Analects of Confucius (lun yu), the most inspiring ancient Chinese book, is basically the conversation notes between Confucius and his followers, isn’t it?) Your active participation in the class is very important. In addition, each student must be rotated as a chair for discussion of a paper about one hour. Rotation will be arranged equally by TA. You must read the assigned article very carefully and give us your thoughtful review on the article. You are also advised to read your classmates’ weekly reports critically. This part is 15%.

MID-TERM REPORTS: 30%, GROUP REPORT
Two of three as a group need to make a critical review about China Sections of our high-education course guidelines (高中課程大綱), textbooks published by different textbook publishers (不同版本教科書) and questions from official higher education entry exams (大學聯考或學測), either in history, geography or/and other subjects. In your review, you need to find out gaps between these existing guidelines, textbooks and exam questions and current development of China on a basis of our readings. Offering possible solutions to fix these problems you have identified (for example, how to rewrite) will be very highly encouraged.

END-TERM REPORT: 30% INDIVIDUAL
Make a comprehensive critical review article (10000 words at least) on these five readings identified in WEEK 18. You need to base on these readings and make cross-fires among these articles and other articles we have read in the semester. Postgraduate students are greatly advised to find more extra references as support evidences to your arguments.

HITNS: Although regime types have been changed in China, there is still certain historical continuality in political and social operations between the dynastic past and the communist nowadays. Discuss.
